Excursion 09

Saturday 23 June 2007

Dear colleagues,

This trip does not have technical difficulties althought it is a rather lengthy and steppy one. I have redefined the starting point such as to have a shorter climbing than the typical one which would imply a climbing length of 1300m. Here is the proposal:

Date: Saturday 23 June 2007
Site: Le mont de Grange (2432 m)
Classification: P3T1 (Lengthy but Easy)
Altitude: 2432 m (highest point)
Climbing up distance: 1100 m
Climbing time: 4h
Total hiking time: 7h30
Starting point: Col de Bassachaux (1778 m)
Meeting point: Manora restaurant (Blandonnet) at 8h00
Remarks: Panoramics, chamois, bouquetins, mouflons, etc.
Access: Take motorway to Montreux. Continue till Bex (before St.Maurice) and get out of the motorway. Take the road to Monthey and then to the French border (Chatel). 12 km after Monthey we find the last Suisse village before France, Morgins. Chatel is 3 km far from Morgins and Tres les Pierres is 3 km far from Chatel following road D228 to the south. We must continue along road D228 for some 7 km after Tres les pierres passing by Chalets de Plaine Dranse and La Mouille Ronde. Less than 1 km after we find the parking of "Col de Bassachaux". Park there. The trip from CERN to Col de Bassachaux should take about 1h40.

It is convenient to emphasize some useful items: please do not forget to carry on (wear) raincoat, hat/cap and sun glasses, warm gloves, hiking boots or sport-footwear with thick and non-slipping sole, enough food and drinks for the own consumption. Spear dry clothes and after excursion confortable shoes are very convenient.

Have a lovely weekend! Cheers! Jose.
