Excursion 12

Saturday 17 September 2005

Dear colleagues,

Weather forecast for the weekend is rather uncertain. That's why I have chosen a trip that does not have any technical difficulty althought it is a bit lengthy and steppy. In addition I have also redefined the starting point to make it shorter than the typical one with 1300 m to climb up. If finally the weather is dry, I may propose the hiking of the previous week that was cancelled due to the bad weather. Here is my proposal:

Date: Saturday 17 September 2005
Site: Le mont de Grange (2432 m)
Classification: Easy but steppy
Altitude: 2432 m (highest point)
Climbing up distance: -140+850-850+140 m
Climbing time: 3h30
Total hiking time: 6h
Starting point: La Mouille Ronde (1735 m)
Meeting point: CERN Main cafeteria on Saturday at 8h30
Remarks: Chamois, bouquetins, mouflons
Access: Take motorway to Montreux. Continue till Bex (before St.Maurice) and get out of the motorway. Take the road to Monthey and then to the French border (Chatel). 12 km after Monthey we find the last Suisse village before France, Morgins. Chatel is 3 km far from Morgins and Tres les Pierres is 3 km far from Chatel following road D228 to the south. We must continue along road D228 for some 7 km after Tres les pierres passing by "Chalets de Plaine Dranse". La Mouille Ronde is 1 km after. Park somewhere around. The trip from CERN to La Mouille Ronde should take about 1h40.

...and here to see the access map... if any .

In the URL http://excursiones.salicio.com you can find information on the outings.

It is convenient to emphasize some useful items: please do not forget to carry on (wear) raincoat, hat/cap and sun glasses, warm gloves, hiking boots or sport-footwear with thick and non-slipping sole, enough food and drinks for the own consumption. Spear dry clothes and after excursion confortable shoes are very convenient.

Have a lovely weekend! Cheers! Jose.
