Excursion 08

Sunday, 19 July 1998

Dear friends,

As suggested by some of you we are slightly increasing the complication of the hiking trips. This time the trip is not difficult but the slopes and soles are harder.

From the point of view of equipment it is mandatory the use of tracking boots. Since we are well advanced in the summer session there is no need of piolet.

Here is the proposal for this Sunday:

Date: Sunday, 19 July 1998
Site: Lac Cornu (2276m) - Lac Noir (2535m)
Classification: Technically Easy
Altitude: 2535 m.
Vertical distance to climb: 629 m.
Climbing time: 2 hours
Total hiking time (both ways): 6 hours
Starting point: Planpraz (1999 m) (Access by telecabine)
Remarks:
Access: Motorway to Chamonix. Parking of the "Telecabine de Planpraz" The trip from CERN to Chamonix will take 60 minutes.
Meeting point: CERN Main Cafeteria, on Sunday at 8.30 am

After the hiking trip we could enjoy shoping in Chamonix.

In the web address "http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/~salicio" you can find the map for this trip.

It is convenient to emphasize some useful items: please do not forget to carry on (wear) raincoat, hat/cap and sun glasses, hiking boots or sport-footwear with thick and non-slipping sole, enough food and drinks for the own consumption.

I hope weather conditions will allow an enjoyable excursion!

Cheers!

Jose.
